Wolf awareness week
Known as ma'iingan by the Ojibway, who are the original people of this land, the wolf has returned to our area. We intend to celebrate this return. Join us for a week of wolf immersion. You'll be learning how we "cut for sign", wolf track identification, and a myriad of track and sign identification and interpretation. We usually are gifted by the wolves the ability to explore a kill site, and delve into the pack dynamics of our wolf kin. We also will learn about the glacially formed north woods' land formations in this wonderland of lakes, rivers, and forests and how the wolves use it to their benefit. We will spend each day in the field following and interpreting wolf tracks and trails then come back to a warm lodge facility to dine and reflect on the day's adventures and weave the collective story of the day. We also often have lectures in the evenings. While tracking wolves, we will encounter the sign of many other animals of the north woods and will be learning about their lives and how they relate to our top predator here.
